GFOA is accepting applications for its most prestigious awards, the annual Awards for Excellence in Government Finance, until January 31, 2009. The awards - which recognize outstanding contributions to the practice of government financial management that exemplify outstanding financial management - stress creativity, technical significance, transferability, and work that offers leadership to the profession and promotes best practices in government finance.

All GFOA members may submit entries for consideration. Nonmembers may also submit entries, but their application must be sponsored by a GFOA active member. There are no fees or charges associated with this program; however, recipients must attend the GFOA's annual conference to accept the award in person.
